On the morning of July 12, Shanxi International Power Group and the China National Petroleum Corporation’s Pipeline Bureau held a ceremony in Taiyuan to sign a strategic cooperation agreement and officially launch the coalbed methane (natural gas) transmission pipeline project. Vice Governor Niu Renliang attended the event and declared the project officially underway.
The four coalbed methane (natural gas) transmission pipelines—Xixian–Linfen, Lishi–Taiyuan, Linxian–Baode, and Shenchi–Yuanping—now under construction have a total length of 638 kilometers, traverse 20 counties and county-level districts, and represent a total investment of approximately RMB 2.7 billion. Shanxi International Power Group and the China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau will fully leverage their respective strengths, pursue mutually beneficial cooperation, achieve win-win outcomes, and make new contributions to accelerating the “Gasification of Shanxi” initiative.

Upon completion, the four coalbed methane (natural gas) transmission pipelines—Xixian–Linfen, Lishi–Taiyuan, Linxian–Baode, and Shenchi–Yuanping—will fully meet the gas needs of 6.2 million residents across 20 counties (county-level cities and districts) along the pipeline routes.
As one of the principal entities responsible for the comprehensive development and utilization of the province’s four-gas industry, Shanxi International Power Group will, during the 12th Five-Year Plan period and in accordance with Shanxi Province’s coalbed methane pipeline network plan, progressively construct an “I”-shaped coalbed methane (natural gas) transmission pipeline network spanning the Hedong coalbed methane field and all coalbed methane blocks, passing through Shuozhou, Xinzhou, Lüliang, Taiyuan, Linfen, Yuncheng and other regions, with a total length of 1,800 kilometers. This pipeline network will play a vital role in boosting local economic development, optimizing the industrial structure, promoting energy conservation and emissions reduction, improving air quality, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Liu Jianzhong, Chairman of Shanxi International Power Group, stated: “During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, Shanxi International Power Group will, in accordance with the specific requirements and arrangements of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, seize the opportunity presented by the Comprehensive Reform Pilot Zone to focus on developing our two core industries—power generation and gas production—strengthen and optimize our international power business, and make the contribution that we are duty-bound to make toward Shanxi’s transformative and leapfrog development.”
