Shenhua to Build World’s Largest Coal Chemical Base in Ningxia

During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, Shenhua Ningxia Group’s annual coal output is expected to surpass the 100 million-ton mark. In the field of coal-to-chemicals, since 2008, a series of projects have been commissioned one after another, including a 250,000-ton-per-year coal-to-methanol plant, a 210,000-ton-per-year dimethyl ether plant, a 600,000-ton-per-year coal-to-methanol plant, a 520,000-ton-per-year coal-based olefins plant, and a 60,000-ton-per-year formaldehyde plant. Meanwhile, preliminary work is underway on Phase II of the coal-based olefins project and an indirect coal liquefaction project.
　　Li Yi stated that Shenhua Ningxia Coal Group, as the main force in developing the national Ningdong Coal Base and a key enterprise within the “Golden Triangle” of energy resources spanning Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Shaanxi, and Gansu, will establish a coal base with an annual output capacity of 100 million tons and the world’s largest coal-to-chemicals complex, both of which will play a pivotal role in boosting regional economic development and safeguarding national energy security.
　　According to available information, Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group is headquartered in the coal industry and has vigorously developed business segments such as coal chemical engineering, railways, and advanced coal processing. It is the largest industrial enterprise in Ningxia, currently holding coal reserves of 29.5 billion tonnes within the region—accounting for approximately 94% of Ningxia’s proven coal reserves.
